“When my mom passed away in May of 2020, the pandemic caused by Covid-19 prevented my family from gathering in person for a funeral. After searching the Internet for an organization that would help us to plan an online celebration of Mom’s life, we found Lighten. Our first contact was with Alexandra, who also provided guidance throughout the process. Not only did Alexandra plan and host our online memorial event, she met online with me and all of my five siblings to work out the details. We are an outspoken bunch of people, and Alexandra was always enormously patient and kind as we struggled with the planning. In addition to helping us organize a celebration for our mother, Lighten also mounted a beautiful Memorial Website so that extended family and friends could visit the page to remember our mom. We were able to work with Lighten to include not only the text and images we wanted on the site, but also audio recordings of our mother’s singing. In addition, the site included an area where guests could leave messages and the family could respond. We were extremely satisfied with the services that Lighten provided, which gave us the opportunity to honor our mother’s life when it was impossible to gather in person. “Losing a mother is a difficult loss. To make matters worse, it happened during the COVID-19 pandemic, at the beginning of social distancing and shutter in place rules. My sister and I were attempting to plan a videoconference memorial service using our Zoom accounts when we realized that we needed help so we could have some time to grieve our great loss.
