Frequently Asked Questions

What is a typical digital ceremony like?
Digital celebrations of life allow friends and family from all over to participate in the celebration of a loved one’s life. Ceremonies are fully customizable, but often feature:

    • Welcoming Remarks
    • Eulogies
    • Readings / Hymns / Poems
    • Photos + Videos
    • Open mic for memory sharing
    • Toast
    • Closing

Any number of people can join or participate in an online celebration of life. Our team will make sure that the experience runs smoothly for speakers and guests, including communication beforehand about how to join. The service can be streamed to anyone with the link (which is password protected) and is available afterwards for those to stream at any time.

How do friends and family participate in a digital ceremony?
At Lighten, our goal is to ensure that everyone is able to participate in the experience — whether they want to contribute to the program or hear from others. Everyone will be invited to share photos, videos, and memories of your loved one. Our team will work with you to plan the ceremony, including any speakers, readings and eulogies.

How does Lighten help with planning?
We are here to help you create a meaningful celebration of life. You will have a dedicated Lighten team member to help with every step – from logistics (like communication to guests) to program planning.

How long does it take to plan a digital ceremony?
Planning begins with a one-on-one conversation with a dedicated Lighten team member. After an initial conversation, we will be able to set-up a Memorial Page within a day. Digital ceremonies can be arranged within one-two weeks.

Can Lighten arrange a physical, in-person celebration of life too?

Once the stay-at-home orders are lifted and it is safe to gather in person again, Lighten can also arrange in-person events.
