In Loving Memory
Adam Lakritz

Obituary for Adam E. Lakritz
January 14, 1959 – June 14, 2020
Adam Eli Lakritz, 61, passed away after a brief illness on June 14, 2020 in La Jolla, California. Adam was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Dr. Amrum and Miriam (nee Michelow) Lakritz. Adam leaves behind his wife Lisa Lakritz of San Diego, California; brothers Max Lakritz of Seattle, Washington and Jonathan Lakritz (Traci Bone) and niece Lilly of San Francisco, California. Adam was “Tio” to nieces Emily and Sophia and nephew Ethan Stansfield of Dallas, Texas.
Adam Lakritz was a man interested in travel, food, wine and culture. Adam’s career in the food services and hospitality industries aligned with many of his personal interests. Adam took great pleasure in introducing others to his favorite pastimes and shared his considerable knowledge freely. Adam also enjoyed meeting new people from other countries and cultures.
Adam’s interest in wine collecting began when he was working in the hotel industry. As food and beverage controller at several hotels, he learned the business of wine. Prior to retiring from 27 years at Jack in the Box, Inc. Adam began taking formal classes at the university as preparation for the Sommelier exam. While Adam never sat for the exam, his considerable knowledge and understanding of the agricultural, cultural and business aspects of wine was an asset in elevating his wife’s and friend’s appreciation for fine wine.
Adam’s paternal grandmother never learned English after she immigrated to the United States in the 1920’s. Adam related having to learn Yiddish in order to communicate with her as a child. This experience shaped Adam’s desire to teach English to foreign graduate students at the University of California San Diego in 2016. Adam’s tutoring included helping students integrate into American culture as well as learning about travel and wine.
Adam’s curiosity about others, generosity with his experiences and time and explorer’s spirit will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Tio adam was a great uncle.
Let’s celebrate Adam’s love of life and learning. He shared his passion for life with everyone he met, creating lasting friendships and teaching us so much.
Such a beautiful celebration of Adam’s life. He had interests in so many different areas and clearly touched a lot of people’s lives. It was particularly interesting to hear his students talk about their relationship with him – we knew Adam’s tutoring meant a great deal to him, and obviously it was very important to his students as well. So glad we could join in this.
Adam was an awesome friend. Spent many hours biking and talking in Janesville Wisconsin during our junior high school, high school and then college years at University of Wisconsin-Madison. The Lakritz family were ALL always very kind and supportive to me during one of the hardest times of my life after my parents divorce. I used to love to visit their home. Adam’s brothers were often there and his Mom had a wicked sense of humor that used to make me laugh long and hard. While Adam & I didn’t always talk often, we remained friends throughout our adult lives. Along the way, growing up, we shared many common friends and interests. My heart was broken to hear this news – which I only just now learned of. The world with be a poorer place without my friend Adam.
Adam was my neighbor across the street on Eastwood. We took an acting class together at Roosevelt Elementary. I fed their pets when they went on vacation. Adam always shared the meaning & customs of Hanukkah at school. Kindest person ever. So sad he’s no longer here. Peace Adam.
I’m sorry that I am just now finding out about Adam’s passing. He was a colleague and I really enjoyed working with him and our regular talks.
R.I.P.
I am truly saddened to only now learn of Adam’s passing. I worked with Adam at Jack in the Box. I was the Regional Human Resources for the Hawaii Region. He was always there to help me with all my technical needs. Adam truly was an inspiration…very smart, kind and funny. Although he will truly be missed, I know he is now in a better place.
Rest In Peace my friend
Aloha,
Bernie
